Among the dermatological ailments affecting one in a lifetime, skin eczema has the highest rate of incidence. This ailment represents a form of dermatitis, or inflammation of the epidermis/skin. It is also generally believed that eczema is a wide term used to refer to all sorts of persistent dermatological conditions. One can recognize skin eczema by the skin redness and dryness, the swelling of the affected areas, the appearance of blisters, flakes, cracks and crusts with the risk of bleeding as well. Not very often, manifestations like skin discoloration caused by some of the healed lesions might occur sometimes accompanied by scarring.

The occurrence of skin eczema is not influenced by age. It affects adults and children alike; yet it seems to be more frequent in the case of babies. Unfortunately the exact cause of this condition is still not known.

What researchers have discovered is that this disease contains a genetics-related aspect that cannot be denied. Therefore, one may develop eczema if there is another family member who suffers from it.

Just as the causes for skin eczema are still unknown, so is the case of the cure for it. In the absence of a remedy, there are only solutions to alleviate symptoms and keep the disease under control. Once diagnosed with eczema, the treatment follows the exact identification of the typology.

The treatment will also be influenced by the gravity of the condition and on the patient’s medical history. The medicines that doctors usually recommend in eczema cases are meant to reduce the itching, limit the inflammation of the skin, remove the lesions and, in case of infections, clear them up. Besides, if only one treatment is not sufficient a combination of different therapies could be the solution.

In addition to the doctor’s prescribed medicines, there are many other things you can do to prevent the development/progress of skin eczema. You should avoid scratching even if it itches badly, plus it is always good to moisturize the affected skin area. Staying away from house cleaning products which contain a lot of irritant components will definitely help. Another thing we can do is keep the environment free of dust. Then, the clothes one wears constantly rub against the body aggravating skin eczema; therefore try to wear something loose and preferably cotton-made. Even if the disease seems to go away under the impact of the treatment, prevention measures remain valid permanently. Thus, one can better monitor the condition and keep it under control.
